Philosophy and Designers

The designs and production of Nikari furniture come from a deep-rooted tradition of Nordic craft philosophy. Modest and serene, the design honors the essence of wood. Nikari furniture fits naturally into pure interiors from different periods.

The more than 20 designers also come from different times and countries, mostly from the North and the names are big. From the Finnish Alvar Aalto in the 60s to the successful Alfredo Häberli from Switzerland, from Joanna Laajisto and Harri Koskinen from Finland, but also, for example, Wataru Kumano from Japan and the greats Jasper Morris and John Pawson from the UK.

The Models and Their Applications

We have previously worked with the elegant Akademia chair, which combines a classic, straight frame with a gently curved seat and backrest. The chair is made of oak or ash wood and is available in different finishes. The seat can be upholstered, but it is actually best made entirely of wood.

Just like the Seminar chair, once designed by the founder of Nikari himself, Kari Virtanen for a seminar for art academy students. This completely wooden chair is therefore very suitable for large spaces, especially because it is one of the few, only? wooden chairs can be stacked up to 15 pieces.

The Faneeri folding chair is also a special addition because it is probably the most minimal folding chair in the world.

The Arkipelago series is designed for outdoor use, place the furniture under a roof protected from rain, but they are also perfect for the sauna and spa areas. This comfortable patio chair is made according to the traditions of Nordic craftsmanship. Wooden nails play an important structural role. The color of the wood will gradually gray outdoors due to exposure to UV rays, which gives the product extra character.

Several beautiful tables can be found in this collection, including the Basic table in different sizes, but the Seminar tables are also available in many sizes and heights. In addition, Nikari is happy to make custom work upon request. Special attention to the recently presented monumental Frame table designed by John Pawson, Absolute clarity, according to the designer, simple and poetic.

The February coffee tables, the April side tables, and the July and August side tables are also absolutely poetic...

Craftsmanship and History

Nikari was founded in 1967 in Seinäjoki, next to the Nikkarinkoski River. The company's name plays on the Finnish word "nikkari", meaning a furniture maker, the name of the area Nikkarinkoski (which means "the river flow of the furniture maker") and the name of the founder himself, Kari Virtanen.
