CARL HANSEN & SØN PHILOSOPHY AND THEIR DESIGNERS

'Our goal is to gather the best, most iconic modern furniture designs under one roof.'

This phrase at once captures the fundamentals of Carl Hansen. They achieve this by holding on intensely to their two core principles; furniture with uncompromising craftsmanship and warm, long-term collaborations with designers with are at the top of their fields.

With a passion for innovating but most importantly honouring mid-century Danish design classics, they are at the leading edge of their field.

High-quality furniture through the combinations of simplicity, individuality and functionality, is the philosophy with which Cal Hansen & Søn has approached the design world for over a century.

They believe that the combination of craftsmanship and high-quality materials creates furniture that is considered timeless and iconic.

THE MODELS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

Through many collaborations with great designers, Carl Hansen & Søn has a unique selection of furniture. Hans J. Wegner's collection in particular is one of which they are extremely proud. In 1949 he designed his most famous chair; The Wishbone Chair. The special aspect of this chair is that the backrest and armrest continue in one line. By doing so, Wegner creates a certain elegance in his chair. The use for this (dining) chair are therefore endless. Its simplicity makes it perfect for use and a true eye-catcher.

The T-Chair by Ole Wanscher is one of the most unique pieces in the collection. With Wanscher's philosophy of creating a design out of respect for material and craftsmanship, fits it perfectly into Carl Hansen's collection.

The chair is designed from a purely ergonomic point of view. This makes the chair perfect for long dinners and you can sit on it for hours, a real must have for your dining room. THE CRAFTSMANSHIP AND HISTORY OF CARL HANDSEN & SØN

Carl Hansen & Søn is a third generation family business.

In 1908, founder Carl Hansen, a Danish furniture maker, opened a small furniture store and workshop in Funen. With the mission to collect Danish furniture with a high level of craftsmanship, Hansen started his business.

He passed away at a young age and it was his wife who kept the business going. With her passion for design, the company continues to thrive under her leadership.

In 1934, the company was taken over by the son; Holger. After that, the two grandsons Jørgen Gerner and now Knud Erik Hansen have taken charge of the vibrant brand.

Under Holger's leadership in 1949 a partnership was formed with Hans J Wegner, then relatively unknown designer. No one at the time could have imagined that this collaboration would change the entire design world. Hans J. Wegner blossomed under the wings of Carl Hansen & Søn into one of the most iconic designers of his and our time. In special, his most famous chair the Wishbone Chair became a great success.

One of Carl Hansen's most important core values that has always been central over the years is high quality craftsmanship. Hansen's goal was and still is to create and collect furniture born of love for craftsmanship.

This passion is also the basis for most of the collaborations with their designers.

An element that has also always played a big role at Carl Hansen & Søn is being environmentally friendly. They feel that it is important to take responsibility for sustainable furniture design.

In every step of the production process, sustainability plays a big role. Environmentally friendly materials and modern energy sources are used. The furniture made by Carl Hansen should last a lifetime, through the entire process they always consider what is best for people and the planet.
